A Hard Look at Nostalgia

As part of the (yet-untitled) family history project, my dad has digitized his mother’s writings, and is cleaning up the OCR. I hope to be able to share them with you in book form very soon; in the meantime, we keep coming across delightful little gems like this one, from my grandmother’s January, 1958 diary:

Mamie Lee Morrison Boone, ca. 1965

Why does a man speak of the ‘good old days’ – and their hardships – with such nostalgia, yet will work his fingers to the bone to insure his children against such an experience?

Mamie Lee Morrison Boone, I Could Write a Book

It’s an excellent question: Why do people do that?

Jennifer Boone (formerly Jennifer Busick) writes essays, short stories, novels, Bible studies, articles and books.

Hey Barb! This is going to be a multi-generational history, with books written by three generations of my family (not by me about them, but by them). I’m very excited about it. Watch this space!
